Add a new column computed from a formula referencing other columns — like Power Query's Add Custom Column.

Description

Adds one new column computed from a formula you write, evaluated one row at a time. Reference other columns with square brackets, like [Amount] * [Quantity], and combine them with arithmetic operators, comparisons, and a small set of built-in functions (such as IF/AND/OR). The formula is parsed and only ever executes an allow-listed set of safe operations — never arbitrary code — so a typo produces a clear error rather than an unpredictable result.

Best For

  • Computing a derived value like Total = [Price] * [Quantity]
  • Building a simple flag column from a comparison, e.g. [Status] == "Active"
  • Combining several columns into one computed summary column

How to Use

1Connect your table
Pass any table into Formula's input — the column list is available to reference in your formula.
2Name the new column
Give the output column a name.
3Write the formula
Reference existing columns with [Column Name] and combine them with operators — e.g. [Amount] - [Discount].

Tips & Notes

Square brackets reference columns
[Column Name] pulls that column's value for the current row into the formula — brackets are required, a bare column name is treated as invalid syntax.
Only a safe formula subset runs
Arbitrary code, imports, and function calls outside the built-in allow-list are rejected before any row is evaluated — you'll get an error explaining what wasn't understood, not a partial result.
