No-code text extraction and splitting — before/after/between delimiters, character ranges, and delimiter splits.
Descripción
Power Query's own Extract/Split Column toolset, for the common text-parsing cases that don't need a real regex pattern. Build an ordered list of operations, each reading one source column: Text Before/After/Between a delimiter, First/Last N Characters, a character-position Range, or Split by Delimiter (into one column per part). Each operation adds new column(s) rather than modifying the source column in place.
Ideal para
Splitting a concatenated "City, State" field into two clean columns
Pulling the text before an "@" out of an email column
Grabbing a fixed-width substring from a code or reference field
Cómo usar
1Connect a table with text data
Pass any table with a text column into Text Parser's input.
2Add an operation
Pick a source column and an operation — Text Before/After/Between, First/Last Characters, Range, or Split by Delimiter — and fill in its parameters.
3Name the output and chain more operations
Give the new column a base name. Add more operations as needed; each runs against the original source data and adds its own columns.
Consejos y notas
No pattern required
For simple delimiter-based extraction, Text Parser is faster to set up than Regular Expressions — reach for Regular Expressions when you need real pattern matching instead.
